Information

On the day of your scan

  • On arrival to reception, you will be asked to fill out a safety checklist and complete insurance forms or settle the cost of the scan if uninsured.

  • A radiographer will address any safety concerns that you have prior to setting you up for your scan.

  • It helps if you dress appropriately i.e. wear comfortable loose clothing without metal zips/buttons.

  • You may be asked to undress - we have a changing room within the scanning unit, and you can leave your possessions there.

  • You cannot bring any metallic items e.g. watch, mobile phone, credit cards etc. into the scan room.

  • The scanner is very loud whilst scanning so ear protection is necessary.

  • It is sometimes necessary to give an injection of a contrast agent to further enhance the image quality.

Looking after you.

  • We have an intercom, so we can communicate with you throughout the duration of the scan.

After the scan

  • A CD of your scan images will be provided to you free of charge on the day.

  • Should it be necessary to provide you with another set of images at a later date, a charge of €20 will apply.

Safety

MRI Scanning has been used in medical practice for over 40 years. There are no known serious side effects.

However there are certain patients that are not suitable for MRI Scanning

These include patients who:

  • Have a cardiac pace maker

  • Have had surgery to treat a cerebral aneurysm

  • Have had a cochlear (Ear) implant

  • Have had any metallic implant within the last 6 to 8 weeks

  • Have any programmable devices inserted in your body

On Arrival, patients will be asked to fill out a safety questionnaire for their scan. If you have worked with metal you will need an X-ray of your eyes prior to your scan to make sure it is safe to proceed.
